Circuit Cycliste Sarthe – Pays de la Loire, stage 1 Benoît Cosnefroy 2nd

Benoît Cosnefroy: “Feeling good physically”

“I wanted to get into the main break but I couldn’t. This first stage had some difficult points in the middle of the course. We took advantage of it with Clément Venturini’s attack. A big group rejoined us with some of the favorites. There was then a standoff within the peloton and we held on till the finish. I am feeling good physically, I tried to attack with a kilometer to go, which allowed me to be well positioned for the final sprint and to secure this second place. This is a good result to kick off the period of racing that I am facing.”Benoit

Anthony Jullien: « I have always remained positive »

« My last race dates back almost six months (October 5, 2021). I can’t wait to start my 2022 season especially since the wait has been long. In agreement with the medical staff of the AG2R CITROËN TEAM and the cardiologist who follows me, we have decided that I can return to competition (Anthony Jullien has benign disorders of the adaptation of the heart rhythm).
This period was not easy for me, but I was well supported by the team, and the situation was well managed.
My sensations are very good in training so I can’t wait to see what it will be like in the race, and especially during the rounds of the Coupe de France. I have always remained positive by thinking of myself racing again, and that is what I train for. »Anthony

Cholet Pays de Loire: victory for Marc Sarreau

Marc Sarreau: “It feels good”

“The finale was intense. Paul Lapeira was in the breakaway on the last lap. In the peloton, we followed the attacks well and when the breakaway riders were caught, I was well positioned thanks to Clément Venturini, who placed me well. With the headwind, I pulled the trigger 250m from the line. It’s a real relief because it’s been a long time since I have won a race. I have experienced bad luck with injuries, crashes, an iliac artery operation, covid… It feels good to win. Next Sunday, I will take on the Roue Tourangelle, which I have already won, with good spirits.”Marc
