All the hard work we did in the last 4 month (motorpacing, rotating and paceline training) finally paid off.

We checked the profile the day before the race and also today we got to the start a few hours before the start. All the riders was very motivated for this TTT prologue, they were riding the corners several times (checking all the corners, cobbles, and all different positions).

We decided that Jan will start first and he will go all out until the first corner, then Vaclav rides all flat, slightly downhill parts and then Filippo all the way until the finish.

They all did a very good job today and everything went perfect.

We got second place which I hope will make them very motivated and confident for the next stages.

I felt a bit of pressure before the start because I was doing the first part of the really short TTT. It was really technical so I had to make sure everyone could follow but still go as hard as possible. After this the other guys finished it off on the second part of the course.

Given the potential difficulty of the finishing laps, we wanted to be a little more conservative with the team goals. Filippo and Doriand should save their energy for the laps, Sacha and Jan could look for the early, easy break, and Louis should try to survive.

The race was fast from the gun with a break of 13 getting up the road, causing a fast chase for the first hour. Finally, a group of 4 got up the road and the pace eased. Jan made some groups but missed the one that got away. In the end Filippo and Doriand were good and helped one another on the final laps. Filippo ended up 19th place, which is a huge result here with the best teams.

Devo Race Report – A Travers Les Hauts de France – Stage 3

Date: September 5, 2021

Race: A Travers Les Hauts de France – Stage 3

Start/Finish: Albert – Le Cateau-Cambresis

Distance: 175km

Weather: Warm with light winds

Course: Flat to rolling hills, with two sectors of cobbles. 1km climb on the finishing 3, 17km laps

Riders: 107

Class: UCI 2.2

Given that Filippo and Doriand were only 3 seconds out of a podium position, and it was unlikely that they would podium in a field sprint, I encouraged them to try to get in the breakaway and pick up some time bonus sprints.

The race started very fast for the first hour before a 4 rider break got away. Our guys missed the move and the guy that made the break won the sprints and ended up 5th in the GC… The race ended in a field sprint again, with a crash in the last 3km. Our guys made it through safely.

One nice touch to the end of the race was the guys presenting the official time keeper of the race with a jersey. He and his wife live with type 2 diabetes while his daughter has type 1.

Distance: 134km

Weather: Warm with light winds

Course: Flat to rolling hills. Slight Crosswind

Riders: 124

Class: UCI 2.2

The profile was pretty easy, but the best Devo teams in the world are here. We figured there would be a big push for teams to be in the break, with the rest wanting a field sprint.

The objective was for Nathan, Jan, Louis and Sacha to follow moves to the break. Doriand and Filippo should sit back and wait for dangerous moves, and then be ready to sprint.

The guys made some of the small initial breaks but missed the 4 rider break that picked up all the KOM and Sprint points. In the end, there was a crash at the front of the group and our guys were caught out.
