Phil Bauhaus wins Stage 1 at Tour of Slovenia.

On the opening 151.5 kilometre stage in Slovenia, Phil Bauhaus, and his teammates, showed Team Bahrain Victorious’ strength. The race started in Ptuj, and it took riders through the hilly land of Štajerska to Rogaška Slatina. Team Bahrain Victorious controlled the race from the start, managing the day’s breakaway of seven riders, who were caught with the help of Jan Tratnik a few kilometers before the technical sprint in the final.

Bauhaus was delighted with the win: “The finish was extremely fast with a slight downhill in the last km. It was key to be in front at the roundabout 700 m to go, and the team did a great job today. We were in the forefront all the time, we controlled the events all the time, I came to the finish in an excellent position, and as a sprinter, I couldn’t be more satisfied.

It’s fantastic. The team was super strong. We took control from the beginning. My teammates did a perfect lead-out for me, and I am very proud. And I also take a win for them today. In the following days, there are still more opportunities to win the races, and as you have seen how our team is strong, we expect more wins”.

Gorazd director Štangelj Sports commented today’s win: “It is easy to plan and not so easy to execute strategy. The breakaway was numerous, and it took a long time and a big fight for the break. It was difficult to control from the beginning, then just two riders pull all over today, one from our team, Kevin, and from team UAE. In the end, we sent Jan to drop down the gap, and the guys did a perfect job until the last 3 km, and even the lead out was more than perfect. I think this was really like on the paper.”

BAUHAUS SECURES GREEN JERSEY WITH 4th PLACE ON FINAL STAGE AT TOUR DE HONGRIE

Bahrain Victorious secured the Green Jersey with Phil Bauhaus on their first appearance at the Tour de Hongrie. The five-stage race over 792 kilometres and 7,954 verticle meters was also raced by the first-ever Bahraini in the pro peloton, Ahmed Madan.

Bauhaus secured the jersey with wins on the opening stage and stage 3, while Santiago Buitrago had a top-ten finish in the GC.

Bauhaus reflected on the race: “In general, I think it was a successful race for us finishing in the top ten in GC, and I have two stage wins and the green jersey.

Today with two wins, we wanted the third one. It was not easy today, and we are a bit disappointed as we went out a bit too early, and there was a slight headwind. Overall it was a good race.”

Ahmed Madan made history, being the first Bahraini represented in the pro peloton and was delighted by the experience: “Amazing first race with the team at Tour of Hungary over five stages. At the start, I felt a little bit nervous as I didn’t know what to expect. Day by day, with the help of the team, I felt better. I started working on the front with the team and helping the guys, and we had two victories and the green jersey, so I’m pretty happy with how the first race went.”

Sports director Neil Stephens shared his thoughts on the week in Hungary: ”We placed 4th today and it was enough to solidify our lead in the green jersey competition, and we are pleased about winning that. In general, we had a really successful week. We came here to win one stage, and we won two. We also wanted to place highly in the GC, and we placed 10th. Finally, Ahmed was able to finish his first stage race in Europe and played an integral part in the success we achieved this week. Hopefully, this is a sign of great things to come for Ahmed and Bahrain Victorious.”

Bauhaus Wins Stage 3 at Tour de Hongrie as Fred Wright rounds off the Podium.

A third win in three days for Team Bahrain Victorious as Phil Bauhaus sprinted to victory on stage 3 at the Tour de Hongrie.

Stage 3 started in Veszprém with riders taking on 142 kilometres to the finish in Tata. An early breakaway of five riders formed after 20 kilometres, but the gap was controlled with them not getting more than four minutes.

The peloton worked to close the gap on the break with good work from Bahrain Victorious and the first Bahraini rider Ahmed Madan doing turns on the front of the group. In the last kilometres, two crashes reduced the sprinting group, but Bahrain Victorious positioned themselves well through Marcel Sieberg, Heinrich Haussler and Fred Wright. The lead-out train put Bauhaus in a great position to win and beat Mike Teunissen (Jumbo Visma) to the line. A strong show from Fred Wright also saw him cross the line in third.

With the win, Bauhaus went back into both the overall and points jersey:
“We had a really good tactic and were able to stay calm in the last corners. With 1km to go, Haussler was amazingly strong. There was one guy from Jumbo between us, and I let Fred go, but I could go and get the win. Tomorrow we have Santiago here, and he is super strong on the climbs, so we hope he can go for the podium.”

Ahmed Madan is delighted with his first race with the team, which has seen the team take two wins and a third-place so far: “Stage 3 of Tour de Hongrie done. It was a shorter stage with sunny weather. Haussler helped me a lot today on the stage with positioning and getting more confident with the group. The more I race now, the more I have confidence in myself, allowing me to do more work for the team in the front to help chase the breakaway. And we won today!”

Bauhaus Takes Stage 1 at Tour de Hongrie

Team Bahrain Victorious got off to a great start at their first visit to the Tour de Hongrie as Phil Bauhaus sprinted to victory on Stage 1.

The 173km stage started in Siófok, featuring a relatively flat stage with only one category three climb. An early breakaway formed from about 20km into the race, and on the Igal climb, they had a gap of around three minutes. The peloton always managed the gap with several teams looking for the bunch sprint.

With around 7km to go, the race was all back together. The teams were then fighting for position in the lead out to the sprint. Bauhaus was able to launch his sprint and take the victory in Kaposvár. With the win, Bauhaus goes into the leader and the points jersey.

Bauhaus was delighted with the win: “It was a controlled race, and everyone expected the bunch sprint. We were really good together, and we executed our goals well. In the last corner, with 1.2km to go, I needed to be in front, and I made my way up to the front, and I could fight for the good wheels. I felt really good, and I still had a lot of power for the sprint to go for the win.

It’s good news for the team following the bad news from the Giro with Mikel. I hope it gives everyone morale for the next days for the guys at the Giro, and it’s important for our team in general.”

It was also the first race for the first Bahraini rider Ahmed Madan, who was happy to make his debut and for the team to win: “It was a perfect first day of racing with the team. All the guys were really welcoming and helpful with my first race. The team all stayed together, and I was moving well with the team. I pulled back when the pace picked up for the sprint, but the guys did a perfect job and took the win.

After the race, we heard the news about Mikel’s crash, and I really hope he recovers soon.”
